The qualification is suitable for anyone working in a wide range of contexts, including pre and post 16 and is widely recognised across the learning and skills sector. It will equip the practitioner with the necessary skills, knowledge and competence to support individuals with different needs including literacy, numeracy, language or ICT needs, and to motivate them to achieve their goals. The practitioner may be working with other practitioners externally or internally and will use a range of resources and activities to engage learners.
The qualification will help practitioner to develop communication and relationship building skills and to progress into more specialised support roles such as coaching and mentoring, teaching and training. The framework is relevant for employers and providers in the private, public and third sectors. Completion of the qualification will ensure that practitioners have the skills and knowledge to support individuals effectively and to develop their own skills and ambitions.
These are some examples of roles this programme is aimed at:
• Skills trainer/ instructor/ tutor
• Basic skills support
• Coaching and mentoring Specialist support in schools/ colleges
• Specialised support in other contexts including lifelong learning
• Youth workers
An assessor will visit the candidate at their workplace once a month for approximately an hour and half. In addition to this, they will set approximately four hours of work to complete before the next meeting. Support materials will be given to candidates and the assessor is always available to give any extra support that is required.
