Maw 2024 / Learners

A team of learners from ACT Training Wrexham have raised over £400 for Nightingale House Hospice to say thank you for helping them on their learning journey.

Nightingale House Hospice is a regular supplier of work placements for ACT learners. They offer 16 to 24 year olds on a Traineeship or Apprenticeship an opportunity to work within their kitchens, warehouse and retail store to complement the qualifications they are working towards.

Learners gave up their time to raise money by offering to pack shoppers’ bags in Asda and were amazed at how generous people were.

ACT Learner Sabrina Referty, who took part in the fundraising, said:”I can’t believe how much money we raised. I loved taking part in this event to help raise money for such an amazing charity.”

All of the money raised will go towards the vital running of the hospice.

Sam Eastwood, Income Generation Administrator at Nightingale House Hospice, said:”We appreciate the support from people such as ACT, who gave up their time to raise a fantastic amount of money, as the hospice would not survive without them.

“In 2014 it will cost £2.65 million to run the Hospice – this equates to nearly £7000 per day. Only 19% of this comes from the Local Health Board, which is only enough funding to support the hospice for 69 days, we therefore greatly rely on the generosity of the communities we serve to raise the additional funding for the remaining 296 days of the year.”

Tony Davies, Work Placements Advisor at ACT, said: “Nightingale House does a terrific job and is a very well respected local charity here in Wrexham and as such we wanted to do something that would raise funds towards the wonderful work that they do.  Everyone, especially the learners, really enjoyed the day and said it was a great fun and a good experience.”

Andrew Cooksley, ACT’s Managing Director said: “Work placements are essential to our learners; they offer an insight into an industry and able them to earn while they learn. The partnership we have with Nightingale House Hospice has enabled us to deliver excellent work placements to our Wrexham learners and I want to thank everyone at Nightingale for their continued support. I would also like to thank Asda for allowing the fundraising activity to take part in their store.”
